Berkman Bees are so grateful to Texas Commission on the Arts for providing a grant to our school! The funding allowed for a fun, science-filled morning of performances by Lucas Miller, The Singing Zoologist for all classes. Mr. Miller helps get our students excited about science - they're having so much fun they don't realize how much they're learning!

We are grateful that the Round Rock Express baseball team is now partnering with our RRISD Department of Library Services Battle of the Bluebonnets competition! Students across the state who read at least 5 of the books on the Texas Bluebonnet Award selection list (3rd - 6th grade levels) are able to vote on their favorite. It's one of the biggest and most prestigious student-selected book awards in the country (Texas is BIG, y'all). Elementary librarians in our district created a district-wide quiz show called Battle of the Bluebonnets. Each elementary school can bring a team of up to five students to compete. This year, we brought our first team from Berkman!
Round Rock Express has started a partnership with us this year! They invited us to hold the competition at the Heritage Room at the Dell Diamond, and they provided Battle of the Bluebonnet shirts to each participant! They also provided FOUR tickets to the game on Thursday, April 28 against Nashville. There was a bit of rain, but a few of our Berkman team members, their families, and one of their teachers (Mrs. Drake) braved the storm to watch some ball and support our Bluebonnet program. So much fun! Hopefully, the partnership with Round Rock Express will continue for many years to come! We really appreciate their support.
We love having Sue Young visit our school. She performed for Pre-K - 2nd, doing a great job of engaging our students by having them participating in some of the stories, many of which are Latin and Native American folk tales. She also tells key lines in both Spanish and English, so all of our students get the jokes - it's awesome. Clicking on the picture will take you to her website :).
